Head trauma
LOC? if yes– ED!!
how are they now? vomiting? coordination? HA/slurred speech? lethargy > 30 mins?
blood from ear?
Head trauma PE
soft spongy swelling in infants <12 mos for >12 hrs = skull fracture
Head trauma imaging
If no neuro.. no imaging!
X ray
CT
Head trauma tx
ice, Arnica 200c or 1M
Nat sulph for long term effects
Nose trauma
apply ice, homeopathic arnica
wait a few weeks if fractured and need surgery (swelling)
Eye trauma examine immediately if:
persistent redness, tearing
severe pain > 30 mins
unequal pupils
penetrating injuries
Eye trauma tx
irrigate eye apply ice calendula or euphrasia Homeopathic euphrasia (foreign body) Homeopathic arnica/symphytum (bruising)
Lacerations/Puncture management
refer for tetanus toxoid if appropriate
Arnica, staphysagria (cutting pain), Ledum (cold, better cold), Hypericum
Animal bite
Wash immediately with copious warm, soapy water
apply pressure to stop bleeding
refer for tetanus toxoid
if bite on hand from cat– ABX
Rabies risk
If somewhat provoked with well-appearing animal… little risk!
Burns
examine for > 3 inches diameter
wash with lukewarm, soapy water
cover with clean dressing, oral analgesics
Homeopathics
- urtica: stining
- kali bich: ulcerated 2nd degree
- hepar sulph: infected burns
- causticum- painful scarring
Poisoning
examine immediately for CNS depressants, caustic substances, sig sxs
Poisoning management
induce vomiting (UNLESS solvent)
if solvent– drink large quantity of any liquid
call poison control
