What increases risk for postoperative apnea in infants?
Born large for gestational age (or normal), GA and regional anesthesia with sedation, anemia, post conceptual age <60 weeks
Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome
Increase in soft tissue growth. Abdominal wall defects, macroglossia, large body, hypoglycemia
Klippel-Feil Syndrome
Cervical spine fusion resulting in difficult intubation.
Prostaglandin Infusion
Can cause apnea in an infant. Keeps PDA open, causes decrease in PVR and SVR (can cause hypotension)
Transfusions (Hct <20% or <25% with on-going bleeding)
Initial transfusion 10-15 ml/kg
