Mechanism of action of diazepam

A

Diazepam potentiates the inhibitory activities of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) by binding to the GABA receptor, located in the limbic system and the hypothalamus.
Benzodiazepines allostetically increase the affinity of GABA receptor for GABA. This inhibits synaptic transmission in the CNS thereby creating a calming effect
