Pediatric 4 Flashcards
How to correct hypoglycaemia in PEDs, rule of 50
Under 1 yr: 5 ml/kg of 10% Dextrose (10×5=50)
1-8 yr: 2 ml/kg of 25% Dextrose (25×2=50)
> 8 yr: 1 ml/kg of 50% Dextrose (50×1=50)
Epinephrine in Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- no maximum dose
- Dose: 0.01 mg/kg of 1:10,000 (0.1 mg/mL) epi
- q 3–5 minutes
- After ROSC, IV drip at 0.1–1 mcg/kg/min, titrated to effect
Pediatric Pulsless V-Tach algorithm
1- immediately defibrillate at 2 joules/kg
2- CPR x two minutes (100-120)
3- defibrillated at 4 joules/kg
*Epinephrine 0.01 mg/kg (0.1 ml/kg of 1:10,000 concentration) q3-5 min starting with the second defibrillation.
4- CPR x two minutes
5- defibrillated at 4 joules/kg
*Amiodarone 5 mg/kg IV/IO or lidocaine 1 mg/kg IV/IO if the patient remains in pulseless ventricular tachycardia after the third attempt of defibrillation.
6- An advanced airway should be placed.
Neonatal Resuscitation indications:
apnea or labored breathing, bradycardia (HR < 100 bpm)
Provide PPV
If no improvement: take ventilation corrective steps
If HR < 60 bpm: intubation, compressions
What are the elements and maximum and minimum scores of the Apgar score?
Appearance (color), pulse, grimace (irritability to suction), activity (muscle tone), and respiratory effort. Maximum score is 10 and minimum 0
