Q

Describe the function of the pectoralis major?

A
  • Powerful adductor of the glenohumeral joint
  • Clavicular head can also aid in shoulder flexion
  • In a flexed position, the lower fibres of the pectoralis major (sternocostal head) can also extend the shoulder (only as far as the anatomical position)

16
Q

What is the insertion of the pectoralis minor

A

Into the coracoid process of the scapula

17
Q

What is the function of pectoralis minor?

A

To stabilise the scapula as the elbow and shoulder move around

18
Q

What does the serratus anterior move?

A

The scapula

19
Q

What innervates the serratus anterior?

A

Long thoracic nerve

20
Q

What is the origin of the serratus anterior?

A

Upper nine ribs

21
Q

What is the insertion of the serratus anterior?

A

Wraps around the body wall and inserts onto the medial border of the scapula

22
Q

What is the function of the serratus anterior?

A

Protracts
Prevents winging
Scapular rotation

23
Q

Describe the arterial supply of the pectoral regions

A
  • Suprascapular artery
  • Dorsal scapular artery
  • Subscapular artery
24
Q

Describe the venous drainage of the pectoral regions

A

Drainage into the subclavian or axillary veins

25
What are the 3 extrinsic back muscles?
- Latissimus Dorsi -Trapezius - Rhomboids
26
What does the latissimus dorsi move?
Moves the humerus
27
What innervates the latissimus Dorsi
Thoracodorsal Nerve
28
What is the origin of the latissimus dorsi?
Attaches to spinous processes of T8-T12 via the Thoracolumbar fascia
29
What is the insertion of the latissimus dorsi?
Inserts into the floor of the intertubercular sulcus between the 2 lips
30
What is the function of the latissimus dorsi?
-Extends - Abducts - Medially rotates
31
What does the trapezius move?
The scapula
32
What innervates the trapezius?
The spinal accessory nerve roots C4 C5 Only muscle of the upper limb not innervated by brachial plexus
33
What is the origin of the trapezius?
To the base of the skull at external occipital protuberance, nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7 - T12
34
Where is the insertion of the Trapezius?
The acromion, spine of the scapula and clavicle
35
What is the function of the trapezius?
* Superior part elevates scapula * Middle part retracts scapula * Inferior part depresses scapula
36
What do the rhomboids move?
Scapula
37
What innervates the rhomboids?
