what are the steps in using a peak flow device? (3)
A
- Prime lungs – deep breath in, long breath out x 3
- 4th breath in, moisten lips, place lips firmly around tube and blow as hard as you can
- Repeat 3 times
Note: patients may need to rest in between

what are some things to keep in mind when doing a peak flow test?
A
- Correct technique
- Use a disposable mouthpiece with filter
- Have a chair behind the patient in case they need to sit down.

what are the steps for using a spacer? (5)
A
- lick lips
- prime lungs - 3 deep breaths
- press inhaler once and keep breathing normally
- press second time and breath in and out 6 times
- wash spacer once a week

what are some useful tips for people who use inhalers?
A
- keep inhaler somewhere you can get quickly
- store at room temp
- write date of when first used canister - expires after 6 months

- suck in
