PE_Module 2 Flashcards
Injuries of the musculoskeletal system
Sports Injury
Factors leading to sports injuries
- Repetitive of wrong movements
- Fall during movements
- Out of balance
- Overuse muscles
- Stress and out of focus
- Can cause your muscles and tendons to become damaged over time.
- Stressing the same muscles through repetition or movements that is not done properly
Repetitive of wrong movements
A movement down that happens due to gravity
Fall during movements
Poor balance ability is significantly related to an increased risk of ankle injuries in different activities.
Out of balance
Over training
Overuse muscles
Stress interferes with accomplishing our goals and can make simple tasks feel more difficult which led to being out of focus that may cause injury
Stress and out of focus
Classification of injury
- Acute injuries
- Chronic injuries
Refers to a condition that is short term, or a symptom that is sharp or sudden
Acute Injuries
Refers to conditions that persist over a long period of time.
Chronic Injuries
Ways to avoid or prevent sports injuries
- Drink lots of water
- Warm up / Stretching
- Technique
- Use best equipment
- Give yourself time to recover
- Proper nutrition
- Dehydration is a common problem among athletes and can result in many issues
- This impairs our ability to think and react freely, and it also makes us more likely to develop cramp and other problems.
Drink lots of water
- One of the most important ways to prevent sports injuries
- It helps to encourage circulation through our body and makes our tendons and muscles more supple
Warm up / Stretching
Neglecting to use the correct technique while performing the sport or event
Technique
Make sure you invest in the ____ to protect your health
Use best equipment
Don’t jump straight back into training without so much as a day off
Give yourself time to recover
It can make its impact on preventing injury by helping an athlete to recover between training sessions
Proper Nutrition
10 Sports Injuries
- Achilles Tendinitis
- Concussion
- Groin Strain
- Shin Splints
- Lower Back Pain
- Pulled Muscle
- Ankle Sprain
- Shoulder Injury
- Tennis or Golf Elbow
- Runner’s Knee
- Is overused, inflammation and pain can occur
- Most common among runners and athletes who participate in sports that involve running or jumping
Achilles Tendinitis
An injury to the brain that is usually the result of a blow to the head.
Concussion
The fan-like muscles situated in the upper thigh that serve to pull the legs together usually happen when you suddenly change directions while running.
Groin Strain
Refer to pain on the inner side of the shinbone caused by inflammation of the muscles that surround it.
Shin Splints
- Is much less common among athletes than among sedentary and overweight people
- Improper stretching
Lower Back Pain
Not warming up properly, fatigue, lack of flexibility, and weakness
Pulled Muscle
