PE gcse Test 4 Flashcards
Identify the chambers of the heart labelled A and B on the diagram on MS Paint.
A = Right Atrium
B = Left ventricle
Identify the blood vessel labelled C on the MS paint diagram
C = Pulmonary Artery
Identify the correct order which blood passes through each of the four chambers of the heart after gaseous exchange at the muscles. (4)
Right atrium > Right ventricle > Left atrium > Left ventricle
- Identify the blood vessel which transports oxygenated blood back into the heart. (1)
Pulmonary Vein
Describe two structural features of veins. (2)
Thin walls
Wide lumen
Work under low pressure
Contains valves Any two will give you the marks
Describe two structural features of arteries. (2)
Thick Elastic walls
Narrow Lumen
Work under high pressure
- Explain the role of vasoconstriction during the redistribution of blood. (2)
Blood vessels become narrower
This limits the blood flow to areas where demand for blood is lower
- Explain the role of vasodilation during the redistribution of blood. (2)
Blood vessels become wider
This increases the blood flow to areas where demand for blood is higher
- Define heart rate. (1)
The number of times the heart contracts in one minute
- Define cardiac output. (1)
The volume of blood pumped out of the heart per minute
- Define anticipatory rise, and state what causes it to occur. (2)
A slight increase in heart rate prior to exercise
Caused by a release of adrenaline
