in the case of a line break, they will break siphon in the pipes coming out of the SFP at the minimum water level
What is the purpose of the fuel transfer tube?
connects the transfer canal to containment for transferring spent and new fuel in and out of containment
what prevents leakage from the transfer canal to the refueling pool?
double gasketed blind flange QOCD (quick operating closure device)
Where is the refueling pool located?
containment
What is the purpose of the fuel transfer tube gate valve?
isolates the SFP from the refueling pool
What are the concerns associated with the SFP and refueling pool level variations when the fuel transfer tube valve is open?
if the SFP transfer canal gate is removed, they become a giant manometer and changes in pressure due to ventilation in the fuel building and containment change the water level in each of the pools
What forms the class pressure boundary between the fuel building and containment?
QOCD
Does the fuel transfer tube see containment pressure during reactor operation?
no
What is the advantage of the QOCD?
reducing time and dose associated with opening and closing the fuel transfer tube
What is the FLEX equipment for the SFP
level indication by control room and in aux building

When core is loaded and reactor head not tensioned, SI is initiated on a LOCA.
instead of coolant going into the RAS sumps, some of it goes out the top of the reactor and into the refueling pool and UGS pit
conical flange watch stations are manned to open the drain valves to allow that water to drain to the RAS sump
