MAIN GENERATION (MA) EXCITATION AND REGULATION (MB) Flashcards

1
Q

1.1
State the purpose of the Main Generation system.

A
  1. Convert mechanical power from the Main Turbine to electrical power.
  2. Provide (at appropriate voltage levels) electric power to the Switchyard.
  3. Provide (at appropriate voltage levels) electric power to the unit Non-Class 1E power systems.
  4. Provide electrical power to the Generator Excitation system.

1.2
Describe the design of the Main Generation system.

A

The Main Generation System includes the:
* Main Generator
o Converts the mechanical rotational power from the Main Turbine into electrical power.
* Isolated Phase (Isophase) Busses
o Transmits power from the generator terminals to the low voltage windings of the main transformer bank and to the high voltage winding of the unit auxiliary transformer.
* Main Transformer Bank
o Three single phase transformers that step up the Generator voltage of 24 kV to the Transmission System voltage of 525 kV.
* Tie lines to the Switchyard
o Transmit power from the main transformer bank to the switchyard.
* Unit Auxiliary Transformer
o A single transformer that steps down the Generator voltage of 24 kV to supply electrical power to the Non-Class power systems at 13.8
