Q
What is the minimal alveolar concentration (MAC)?
A
This is how the potency of an anaesthetic is expressed.
It is the concentration of the vapour in the lungs that is needed to prevent movement in 50% of patients in response to to surgical pain
The higher the potency of the drug, then the lower the MAC
- potency increases with lipid solubility
