Pavlovs dogs Flashcards
1
Q
What was the aim?
A
To see whether dogs can learn behaviour via association
2
Q
what was the procedure?
A
- Salivation tubes were tied to the cheeks of the dogs to collect saliva
- When dogs were provided with food only ( UCS) they salivated ( UCR)
- Before introducing the food, a bell (NS) was rang just before the food was introduced and this happened each time the food was given
3
Q
What were the results ?
A
The dogs began to salivate each time the bell rang, meaning they associate the food with the bell
4
Q
what was the conclusion?
A
Dogs can learn via association of a neutral stimulus and a unconditioned stimulus to create a response
5
Q
How is it generalisable?
A
- Dogs and human share the same genes and traits so the realists can be generalised
OTOH- study was taken place on dogs so cannot be generalised to humans
6
Q
How is it reliable?
A
Standardised procedure, the same salivation tubes, bell - can be easily repeated
OTOH-Dogs Behaviour is unpredictable so is therefore less reliable
7
Q
How is it applicable?
A
-helps to understand how behaviour is learnt via association
OTOH- research took place on dogs
8
Q
how is it valid ?
A
- Dogs were placed into an odourless room - extraneous variable of smells were removed
OTOH- lacks ecological validity
