Flooding; exposure therapy Flashcards
1
Q
What are the stages of flooding?
A
- The individual is put into a situation with their feared objects for a pro longed period of time with no escape.
- can be done mentally known as implosion
- We see the process of reciprocal inhabitation- body becomes exhausted so fear disappears
2
Q
Who supports flooding?
A
Flooding is supported by Wolpe who used flooding to treat a girls phobia of cars by continuously driving her around. This is a strength because it shows how reciprocal inhabitation treats phobias which means it is a credible explanation.
OTOH- case study- cannot be generalised

Q
Who conflicts flooding?
A
Flooding is conflicted by Bartlett who tried to use implosion to help a girl who a phobia of snakes and each time she closed her eyes she could see snakes. This is a weakness because the treatment wasn’t effective which lowers the credibility
OTOH- case study
