Bandura 65 Flashcards
What was the aim?
To investigate whether vicarious reinforcement had an effect on Children’s behaviour?
What was the sample?
66 Nursery students aged 3-5, 33 males and 33 females
What was the procedure?
- Children taken to wait for a suprise playroom to watch a 5 minute show
-The bobo doll was put on the side and was punching him ‘pow him in the nose’
-Bobo doll was hit, threw around and hit on the head with a mallet ‘sock him in the nose’
What were the results?
- children were more likely to imitate behaviour if the model was positively reinforced
- younger children copied physical aggression more than verbal aggression
What was the conclusion?
Children will copy behaviour if it is rewarded and behaviour will decrease if they are punished
How is it generalisable?
large sample of 66 including males and females so not androcentric or gynocentric
OTOH- all from the same nursery, same age - shared characteristics
How is it reliable?
Standardised procedure, playroom, watching the show- can be easily repeated
How is it applicable?
Teaches role models to reward good behaviour so that it repeats and to punish bad behaviour
otoh- socially sensitive
How is it valid?
How is it ethical?
