Pattern of Inheritance Flashcards
Autosomal
Autosomal chromosomes are numbered 1-22
non sex chromosome
Recessive
passed to offspring, where both alleles
Dominant
Sex-Linked inheritable
X linked Recessive
Males with recessive gene will always express the phenotype
For females to be affected mother must be a carrier and father must be affected
X linked Dominant
Heterozygous females will always show the trait any individual with the trait must have a parent with the trait
Males cannot pass it to their son (as they pass on their Y)
Finding pattern of inheritance - Dominant - Affected parent produce affected offspring???
Affected parent produce affected offspring ?? > [Yes] Dominant
Male to Male Transition ??
> [Yes] Autosomal Dominant OR [No] maybe X linked
Daughter male be affected ??
> [Yes] X Linked»_space; Autosomal Dominant
Finding pattern of inheritance - Recessive - Affected parent produce affected offspring???
Affected parent produce affected offspring ?? > [No] Recessive
All males affected ?? (almost all) m-f-m
> [Yes] X linked recessive OR [No] No Autosomal Recessive
Homozygous
Having two identical alleles for a particular gene
Heterozygous
Having two different alleles for a particular gene
Phenotype
The physical characteristics of an organism (ex: tall)
Genotype
The genetic makeup of an organism (ex: TT)
