When the disease is on the exterior, what signs and symptoms may we see
In the skin, muscular striae, channels & collaterals
Invasion of superficial body - through mouth nose or the pores
External pathogen, sudden onset, superficial location, floating pulse, mild symptoms, course of illness short
Fever, aversion to cold, headache and general aching thin and white tongue coating, aversion to wind nasal congestion, itchy or painful throat,
Interior syndrome
In Viscera and bowels, blood vessels or bone marrow
Interior of the body, dysfunction of Qi and blood in visceral and bowels, exterior gone interior.
Causes complex
Clinical manifestations are various
Fever and chills
Fight between good and evil in the body - how difficult the fight is
Cold syndrome
Invasion pathogenic cold or obstruct defensive yang
Serious aversion to cold, mild fever w/o sweat, headache and body ache, thin white coating of the tongue, floating and tense pulse
More yin in nature
Interior cold syndrome
Caused by and attack on internal organs by pathogenic cold / def. yang. Manifested with intolerance of cold, cold limbs, pale complexion, tastelessness, profuse salivation, copious clear urine, loose stools, pale tongue with whitish moist coating, deep slow pulse.
Exterior heat syndrome
Pathogenic heat
Symptoms: fever, slight aversion to wind cold, dryness of the mouth, slight thirst, often sweating, red tongue with yellow fur, rapid pulse
Interior heat syndrome
XS heat in the body or yin def.
Symptoms: flushed face, fever, red tongue with yellow fur, rapid pulse

Cold syndrome with pseudo-heat
Pseudo-heat: Fever, floating redness on face, large pulse
Cold: pulse large but deep w/o force, pale tongue w/ white-ish moist coating
Heat syndrome with pseudo-cold
Pseudo-cold: intolerance of cold, cold limbs, diarrhea, black fur tongue
Heat: fever, red and NOT moist tongue, rapid pulse
