A
- Large AOR necessitates constant patrolling to achieve requisite extent of domination.
- More patrolling creates more contacts with the insurgents which is essential for success.

- Difficult terrain and weather conditions required extensive and frequent patrolling for the acquisition of information about the gaining contact with the insurgents.

- Lack of co-ordination at staff level.
- Lack of proper briefing.
- Lack of knowledge of infantry basic tactics.

- Battle fatigue.
- Improper use of battle craft.
- Inhibition in conduct of patrolling at night.
- Inability to carry out observation and reconnaissance.

- Patrolling in CI environment is quite different from the conventional. Explain.

- There are no defended localities/areas of the opponent.
- Minefields are normally non-existent though hostile are known to use of extensive amount of IEDs and other explosive devices.
- There are neither “No Man’s Land’ nor are there any well demarcated boundaries.
- Hostile normally lack in sophisticated weapons and equipments.
- Troops will have to operate in pro-hostile village, in such areas greater attention will have to be paid by troops toward security of information and operation.
