What position should patients be in when shaving?
Same position as for surgery
Why do we express the bladder before surgery?
Bladder gets in the way.
When during the prep is the best time to express the bladder?
Prior to surgical scrub, after shave before moving to surgical suite.
What is the difference between cleaning solutions that are scrubs and those that are solutions?
Scrubs are a detergent/soap base.
Solutions have same chemical but no detergent.
What are some common cleaning agents for prepping a surgical patient?
Chlorhexidine & Isopropol alcohol, sterile water
Why do we rinse most cleaning agents off the pet?
Removes the detergent/soap.
What is a purse string suture
Suture that prevents the evacuation of fecal contamination during a procedure.
What is the purpose of tie downs?
This ensures that the surgeon has a immobile patient with adequate room for working.
What is the purpose of a surgical drape?
To provide a continuous sterile field
Is there a different technique for draping other than a fenestrated drape?
Yes, four quarter drape.
What does strike through mean?
Liquid that is absorbed through material.
