Used during the introductory stage of the encounter when you are beginning to establish rapport

At this distance you can see the whole patients can get a “big picture” of them

Vocalization is limited to formal question such as identifying the right patient and personal questions are to be avoided

Where the interview component will occur and where people gain sensitive patent information

This is when we would pull the beside curtains

Patient’s trust can be enhanced by assuming correct eye contact with the patient
