Pathology of MSK Flashcards
What are the four functional purposes of hyaline cartilage at synovial joints?
Which joints are usually spared of OA?
Wrist, elbows, shoulders
What are the earlier and later changes of OA pathology?
Early:
Small cartilage fissures
Fibrillation
Late:
Erosion/Eburnation (reactive conversion)
What are the radiological correlations of (4 characteristics)?
What are the clinical correlations of osteophytes/other pathological changes?
What joints are more likely to be affected in RA and which joints are spared?
More affected: start with small joints (hands and feet)
Sparing hips and lumbosacral joints (which are very likely to be affected in OA)
What are presentations in acute phase in RA? and chronic phase?
Acute:
Pannus formation
What is Paget’s disease of bones? What are the three stages?
Which bones are more commonly affected in Paget’s?
Usually axial, small bones less commonly affected
