What is a clay shovelers fracture?
Hyperflexion of the neck. Avulsion fracture of the spinous process on C6-T1. Best seen on lateral C-spine
What is a hangman’s fracture?
Extreme hyperextension of the neck. Fracture extends through the pe)dicles of C2
What is a Jefferson’s fracture?
A comminuted fracture. From landing on top of head, or landing hard on feet. The open mouth projection and lateral show this fracture
What is the odontoid fracture?
Involves the dens and can involve the lateral masses. An AP open mouth will show this fracture
What is a tear drop burst fracture?
compression with hyperflextion of the cervical spine. Usually quadraoplegic damage.
What is HNP? (Herniated nucleus pulposus)
protruding disk pressing on the spinal cord or spinal nerves causing severe pain. Called a “slipped disk”
What is scoliosis?
abnormal curvature of the spine.
What is osteoarthritis?
degeneration of one or many joints
What is osteoporosis?
degeneration of bone mass
What is Scheuermanns disease?
abnormal spine curvature with kyphosis or scoliosis. More common in boys than girls. Begins with adolescense.
What is Spondylitis?
inflammation of the vertebrae
What is Ankylosiins spondylitis?
involves spine and larger joints. males 20-40. pain and stiffness of SI joints
What is spondylolisthesis?
Involves forward movement of one vertebrae in realtion to another. Most common at L5-S1. Defect in the pars articularis
What is spondylosis?
dissolution of a vertebrae. separation of the lars articularis. On the oblique projection, the neck of the scotty dog appears broken. Most common on L4-L5
Pathology of the thoracic spine would involve what views?
AP and Lateral
