What are pathogens
A pathogen is an infectious agent
What are the main types of pathogen and examples of them
-Viruses - HIV
- Bacteria - Salmonella
- Fungi - Althlete’s foot
- Protisits - malaria
- Endoparasites - tapeworm
- Ectoparasites - ticks, fleas
What are the different types of transmission and examples
Direct contact - sexual contact intercourse
Water - dirty water can transmit diseases if drank
Air - sneezing can spray droplets continuing infected particles to others
Unhygienic food prep - undercooked or reheated foods can cause bacterial diseases
Vector - any organism that can spread diseases is called a vector
Different types of disease transmission
Falcon-oral - injection of food contaminated by faeces of an infected bird (salmonella)
Aerosol - inhalation of infectious particle sin the air
vertical - infection passing from an adult to offspring embryo
What is a notifiable disease
Animal diseases that are legally obliged to report to DEFRA or APHA
What is anthropozoontic disease
Disease transmitted from animals to humans
What is zooanthroponotic disease
Humans passing diseases to animals
