What are the different types of accommodation

One bird or a very small group of birds
Whst are avarice’s
They are a much larger enclosure, designed to house multiple birds
How are birds of prey housed and what is each one
Weathering yards
An area open to the element where bird of prey can safely spend its day
Traditional mews
Usually portioned to keep tethered birds separated, has perches for each bird
Free loft mews
Allow captive birds more freedom of movement they take up lots more space
What is pinioning
Wing clipping
Why are flight feathers clipped
Allows them to not be able to lift off and fly away
WHat do you need to consider when installing a perch
- can the bird fly
- bird needs to be able to reach and climb from perch to perch
- ensure water and food bowls aren’t directly underneath to get any waste in them
- different textures, shapes and sizes of perches
What different type of substrates can you have
Corn cobs - can cause death if ingested
Walnut shells - can inflame and irritate organs, can cause death
Cedar shavings - can be toxic to birds
Pine shavings - usually used as nesting materials however if ingested can cause infections
Paper products - safest materials to use
Pea gravel - excellent mews flooring for raptors, lasts a long time, easy to clean
Sand - easily cleaned and easy to manage, naturally looking and cheap
