Path: diagnositc principles Flashcards
What are cytokeratins?
collection of proteins that highlight benign and malignant epithelial cells.
What is vimentin?
intermediate filament expressed in CT tumors and melanomas
What is leukocyte common antigen?
Found in leukemias and lymphomas
What is CD20?
protein found on B lymphocytes
What is CD3?
protein found on T lymphocytes
What is CD31?
marker for endothelial cells used to verify vascular tumors
What is smooth muscle actin/SMA?
stains actin intermediate filaments to contractile smooth muscle cells. myofibroblastic and myopeithelial cell tumors express this marker
What is desmin?
muscle marker
What is S100?
intermediate filament that stains neural cell walls and other cell types like melanocyte and cartialge. employed for neural and ganular cell tumors as well as melanocytic lesions.
What is HMB-45?
Stains some, but not all, melanomas.
