To celebrate the Israelites freedom from slavery in Egypt

-remove chametz (rising agent) = Israelites did not have time for bread to rise when escaping Egypt, +, rising agents make bread puff up - removal of that means that they are totally reliant on god as doing have excessive pride!

What does the matzvah symbolise
When the Israelites left Egypt, they don’t have time for the bread to rise so they left it flat = matzvah- flat bread
+ pride= not puffed up so can souly focus on god

Stands for temple sacrifices + symbol of new life
Symbolism of Charoset
Fruit+ nut mix
Represents the mud/cement used by slaves during building work
Symbolism of bitter herbs
= reminder of the bitterness of slavery
Symbolism of salt water
Stands for the tears of the slave and the Red Sea that drowned the Egyptians
Symbolism of parsley…
= god providing fresh food for slaves in desert
—> dipped in salt water to remember the herbs dipped in blood + smeared on doorposts
