Passive Tansport, Carrier Proteins, & Channel Proteins Flashcards
What is passive transport?
The process by which ions and molecules pass through a membrane without an input of energy
What is facilitated transport?
It helps molecules diffuse through the cell membrane by way of a specific channel and carrier proteins
Channel proteins
Move substances from one side of the cell membrane to the other. The direction is determined by the concentration gradient
Carrier Proteins do what?
Provide a different mechanism for substances to mive through the membrane
It has a continuous open passage?
True or False
False
It does not have a continuous open passage and undergoes a shape change when substances move through the membrane
Aquaporin
Is a channel protein for water
What does aquaporin do?
Allows water to pass through the cell membranr
What do glycoproteins do?
They provide each cell with a special identity
Receptor proteins
Pass along information from the outside of the cell membrane into the cell
Temperature is
A measure of molecules kinetic energy
Molecules move from a
Higher concentration to a lower concentration
Name 2 molecules that can pass through the cell membrane (without channel proteins)
Water & oxygen
How can passive transport be demonstrated?
With bean seeds and plaster
What substances could cross your cells membrane?
Water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, glucose, chloride ions
What substances could cross your cells membrane?
Water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, glucose, chloride ions
