A describing word, it describes a noun
What is a determiner?
Limits or ‘determines’ a noun
E.g a, an, the, two, some, many
What is an adverb?
Describes a verb, adjective or adverb
E.g. quickly, silently, well, badly, very, really
What is a pronoun?
It replaces a noun
E.g. I, you, she, he, some
What is a preposition?
It links a noun to another word
E.g. to, at, after, on, but
What is a conjunction?
A word that joins clauses, sentences or words
E.g. and, but, when
What is an interjection?
A short exclamation Sometimes inserted into a sentence
E.g. oh!, ouch!, hi!, well
What is a transitive verb?
-A transitive verb is an action verb that has a direct object to receive that action
-it answers the question ‘what?’
What is an intransitive verb?
Action verbs that do not have an object receiving the action
What are the types of nouns?
-common
-proper
-concrete
-abstract
-count
-non count
-collective
-compound
What is a common noun?
Any noun in the general sense
E.g. church, school, car
What is a proper noun?
Any specific noun; always starts with a capital letter
What is a concrete noun?
Any noun that impacts any of the five senses
E.g. chair, computer, St. Mark
