What is a cyclotron?
It is a type of particle accelerator made up of 2 dees. Ions are attracted to one of the dees and forced to travel a circular path by the magnetic field back into the other dee.
What is an isotope?
Elements that have the same number of proton but different number of neutron.
What is thermionic emission?
A filament of wire which is heated by an electric current will have a cloud of electrons surrounding it. They will not move far away from the wire as it will be left with a positive charge which will attract the electrons back.
What is activity?
It is the rate of decay (Bq)
What is half life?
It is the average time taken for a given number of radioactive nuclei of that isotope to decay half of that number
What is an ion?
It is an atom which lost or gain one or more electrons and is therefore electrically charged
