Particle model of matter Flashcards
Density
Density is the mass (g) per unit volume (cm3)
What are the 3 gas laws?
- Amonton’s P-T (v)
- Boyle’s P-V (T)
- Charle’s V-T (P)
Describe an investigation to determine the mass of an irregular object.
Allow/ Very gently let the irregular object to gain stability and prevent splashing.
1, Using a chemical balance/ measuring scale or triple beam balance, determine the mass of the irregular object. Record its mass in a results table.
2, Tie the object using a thin thread and gently lower it into a measuring cylinder or eureka can.
3, Allow the irregular object to reach stability. The volume of the object will be determined by V2-C1 = ? cm3 or the volume of the water displaced.
4, To determine the density use the equation P= m/v = ? g/cm3
To improve reliability, repeat the experiment 3 times and calculate the mean/ average
Precaution: ensure that the object is gently placed in the water to avoid splashes/ spillages. This will give an accurate volume.
