Non vascular plants-

A

–Missing vascular tissue - vascular tissue moves food and water a round like tubes
–One cell passes to another cell over and over again– this will limite them
–Will be short- grow as tall as they water can go up- can’t get water from ground
–Wort means small

phylum (Division) Bryophyta-

A

–Plant like mosses
–Mosses grow where it is moist- like on the north side of trees or hills
–Don’t do well in desserts
–Does not have all cuticles- no waxy protection
–Can’t hold water in- if the sun up and no water they will dry up and may die
–They are under most plants where it is moist and not dry
–Most related to green algae

Vascular spore plants-

A

–Have vascular tissue - xylem and phloem
–Xylem - moving water up/ phloem - moving food down
–Can be tree size - not most grow this big
–The first big forest was made out of this

*note - sporophyte and gametophyte are completely separate now

Phylum pterophyta

A

–feather / wing plants
–Have feather looking leaves, They are frens
–Can reach tree size - 30-40ft
–Like shady places- mostly can find them in woods
–Has a swimming sperm - needs water
–Can get sunburnt
–They are becoming more plentiful

*note Not good to eat

Phylum arthrophyta

A

–Jointed plants
–Genes – not a lot of this left
–The only type that is living is equisetum
–Are called horse tails or scouring
–Has a lot of sand/ glass - ruff bits in its steam
–Found by a floodplain or somewhere with water
–Scowing - scrubbing

Phylum lycophyta

A

–Called wolf plants
–Referred to scale plants ( the leaves over lape like scales)
–Find this similar to ferns
–First type of trees - they were a dominant plant over the time period of carboniferous
–They don’t rote
–Make most of coal that we use
–We burn this and that means we are releasing old carbon
