part 3 chapter 20-23-----22 Flashcards
seed plants
–Has seeds - plant embryo in it = Not the same thing as spore
–Embryo than food supplies then a tough shell
Life cycle –
- Sporophyte ( 2 sets of chromosomes
- Miositis - ( splits the 2 chromosomes ) now a haploid
–spores go nowhere- they stay in a corn or flower
gametophyte( male= pollen ) sperm does not need to swim - pollen can move. Moves from a male flower to a female. Could be wind or other.
–they go together then become diploid-zygote. Makes new sporophyte
3 big difference are
–Spores do not move
–Sperm does not need to swim - water is not need to make more
–Embryo in the seed moves
Gymnosperms
–Means neacked seed - not covered by a true fruit
–First seed plants
–When it got colder or dry they took over but they got taken over by flowers
–There are things like brushes, trees, etc…..
–They grow pretty big size for a plant
–Most of the groups are tropical
Phylum Coniferophyta
–Plants with cones– both female and male cones can be on the same tree
–Like pine trees
–Most highly like to live out of the Gymnosperms
–They are woody plants (trees, shrubs)
–They are dominant in climates like of canada , northern europe , dry lands
Phylum Ginkgophyta
–Only one living species
–Stared as native to only himalayans, but now is world wide
–Separated females and females
–Naked seed plants
–You mostly cut down females because they are smelly
–They become big trees
Angiosperms (Phylum Anthophyta)
–Flowering plants
–Most living/ successful plants
–Mostly the plants you see outside
–Become dominant in cretation
