What diagnosis might require racemic epinephrine?
croup
- acute viral infection that occurs primarily in winter and spring
- RSV accounts for 80% of all cases of this
- transmission is commonly from not washing hands
- infants younger than 2 months are often hospitalized for this

How long can RSV live on skin, paper, and cribs?
skin and paper - 1 hour

What are the symptoms of bronchiolitis?
-URI symptoms for several days followed by:
tachypnea, dyspnea
inspiratory and expiratory wheezing, crackles, rhonchi, cough, nasal stuffiness
retractions (ribs) with or without nasal flaring
cyanosis
How is bronchiolitis usually treated?
- at home with fluids, humidification, and rest
- if hospitalized: isolation and elevate HOB
- no abx
What can infants who are at risk for RSV get to prevent?
- Nov-April Synagis injections
- premature infants
- less than 2 years with chronic lung disease, heart disease, or immunocompromised
What are the 3 signs that indicate a child is truly choking, requires immediate action, and can die within 4 minutes?
- cannot speak
- cyanotic
- collapses
