Q

How is a blood pressure reading expressed in a ratio?

A
  • Blood pressure readings are expressed as a ratio of the systolic pressure over the diastolic pressure.
  • Blood pressure readings vary from person to person. (Some of the factors: Emotions, age, stress, illness, and incidents (trauma).)
  • The systolic pressure of an adult ranges from 120-140 mmHg and the diastolic pressure ranges from 75-90 mmHg.
  • A healthy blood pressure reading should he lower than 120/80 mmHg, while a blood pressure reading of 140/980 mmHg or higher indicates high blood pressure or hypertension.
