Part 2: Six Ways to Make People Like You Flashcards
Do This and You’ll Be Welcome Anywhere
Become genuinely interested in other people.
“You can make more friends in two months by becoming genuinely interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.”
“be interesting by being interested.”
A Simple Way to Make a Good First Impression
Smile
“The expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.”
Smile at someone every hour the day for a week and
record your results.
If You Don’t Do This, You Are Headed for Trouble
Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
Remember principle two, part one? “Dr. Dewey said that deepest urge in human nature is the ‘desire to be important.”
An Easy Way to Become a Good Conversationalist
Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
“Exclusive attention to the person who is speaking to you is very important. Nothing else is so flattering as that.”
How to Interest People
Talk in terms of the other person’s interests.
Don’t try and shove your ideas, interest and hobbies in others face but instead show interest in them by speaking of their ideas, interests and hobbies.
How to Make People Like You Instantly
Make the other person feel important-and do it sincerely.
“So I ask myself, “what is there about him that I can honestly admire. I remarked with enthusiasm: I certainly like your head of hair.”
When you’re with people don’t compliment just to compliment. Find something about them that you genuinely appreciate and let them know that you appreciate it.
