What does SMART stand for?
Specific Measurable Achieveable Realistic Time-Bound
In SMART what does the S stand for (explain what it means)
Specificity. This means to know what exactly the goal is. It could involve a series of steps towards the overall goal.
In SMART what does the M stand for (explain what it means)
Measurable. This means it will be easy to know when goals are achieved.
In SMART what does the A stand for (explain what it means)
Achieveable. This means that the goal must be attainable. Unachieveable goals are likely to result in demotivation.
In SMART what does the R stand for (explain what it means)
Realistic. A goal may be achievable however there are things that could hinder the completion of that goal.
In SMART what does the T stand for (explain what it means)
Time-bound. This means does the goal have an end point.

What do PAR-Q’s do ?
A self-screening tool that can be used by anyone who is planning to start an exercise or training routine
Why do you perform a warm up ?
- Prepare the muscle, joints, ligaments and tendons
- Prevent injury
- Prepare the mind
- Prepare the cardiovascular system
What are the phases of the Warm-up?
Pulse-raiser/Cardiovascular
Stretching
Sport specific
Why should you do a pulse raiser/cardiovascular ?
This stage of the warm up gradually raise the heart rate towards the working heart rate. This can be done in a variety of different ways.
Why do we stretch when we warm up ?
Stretching prevents injury. There are two types of stretching. Static and dynamic stretching
What is static stretching ?
Static stretching is easy on the spot stretching. This type of stretching is done stationary.
What is dynamic stretching
Stretching that involves movements
What is the sport specific phase of warm up ?
The final phase of a warm up will be to practice skills that are relevant to activity. E.g. passing in football, throwing catching and batting for cricket, sprint starts etc.
