The way a country is governed
Dictatorship
A way of ruling in which the three powers cannot be seperated and are in the hands of a small group of people. A dictatorship has no rule of law.
Autocratic dictatorship
One leading figure is the face of power, sometimes assisted by a junta
Junta
A government that consists mainly of military officers
Totalitarian dictatorship
A group of people have seized power via an ideological revolution.
Indoctrination
The population is spoon ded the party ideology in a totaliarian dictatorship
Theocracy
A dictatorship in which religion becomes the state ideology
Ideology
A body of related ideas about man and the way society should develop
Democracy
The people rule
Dircect democracy
Important decisions are made by the citizens directly
Indirect democracy
Representative democracy
Representative democracy
The people elect representatives who make the decisions and who are quite regularly held accountable by the people ofr their policies when elections are held.
Parliamentary system
The directly-elected parliament is the highest administrative organ in the country
Constitutional monarchy
Monarchy in wich the powers of the non-elected head of state are curtailed by the constitution
Presidential system
The administrative power is shared between parliament and the president - both directly elected by the people
