Neglectful
The parents are uninvolved in the child’s life.
For example: this parent would say “I have other things to do that are more important”.
Indulgent
These parents are highly involved with children but places few demands on controls
For example: this parent may say “you can do what ever you want”.
Authoritative
These parents are restrictive and harshly punitive and the children have heavy demands, follow harsh rules without explaination, and are extremely respectful.
For example: these parents may say “You do it my way or else”.
Authoritarian
These parents encourage independence with some limits and controls on their actions
For example: these parents may say “You know you shouldn’t have done that; let’s talk about what went wrong so you don’t make those choices again”.
