Types of PN
1) TPN- administered through central access/PICC for larger concentrations
2) PPN- administered through central vein for short periods and small concentrations
Types of Infusion
1) continuous
2) cyclic-monitor glucose
discontinuing PN
gradually decrease flow rate while increasing oral intakke
air emobolism symptoms
apprehension, chest pain, dyspnea, loud churning sound over pericardium, rapid and weak pulse, resp distress
air emobolism intervention
clamp
left side lying with head lower than feet
notify
admin O2
pneumothorax symptoms
absense of breath sounds on affected side chest or shoulder pain sudden shortness of breath tachycardia cyanosis
pneumothorax intervention
may need chest tube.
make sure to confirm placement with chest xray
changing of solution and tubes
change solution q12-24 hrs
changes tubing q24hrs
changes dressing q48hrs
