A
  • Chronic, severe diarrhea/Vomiting
  • Complicated surgery/trauma /GI obstruction
  • GI tract anomalies and Fistula
  • Severe anorexia nervosa
  • Severe malabsorption
  • Short bowel syndrome

PN preparation and safety

A
  • PN solutions should always be prepared by the pharmacy
  • never add anything to PN solutions after they are prepared
  • always ensure parenteral nutrition is on an infusion pump
  • use filters and a dedicated line for PPN when multilumen line is in use (triple or quadrable lumen central line)
