why do we use CVADs?
A
- used in patients with 2 or more diseases
- need IV fluids, blood products, blood draws, or vesicant medications like cardiac drugs like (dopamine or vasopressors)

consider why a CVAD is being placed and whether it is safe for them.

what is the clients age and their comorbities? ex: age, diabetes, HTN, ESRD, Obesity

cvads have a higher osmalarity
A
- they are safer to give multiple medications and high volume of fluids at once because it is less likely to crystalize the IV

A
- central venous catheters
- rest in the distal end of the superior vena cava at or near cavoatrial junction

A
- Placed in the subclavian or internal jugular vein
- (best for short term needs in acute care setting)
