1. Acknowledge HCP Orders
2. Focus prepare only one patient’s meds at a time
3. Clean medication drawer and place cloth
4. Remove meds from Pyxis & verify against eMAR on computer screen
5. Check exp. Date and Pkg integreity

Question 2

Preparing a medication single dose (5)

Answer 2

1. Select appropriate syringe and BF needle
2. After cleaning the vial top, inject air equal to amount of medication to be withdrawn
3. Withdraw the entire amount from the vial
4. Prepare to deliver the exact amount of the medication ordered
5. Remove BF needle & attach appropriate sterileneedle

Air bubbles for single dose (4)

Answer 3

1. Make sure needle is below fluid level
2. Withdraw med slowly
3. Withdraw entire volume from vial - expect air to follow
4. Expel the air and medication, if more than required is in the syringe, to ensure exact dose

Question 4

Air Bubbles for multi dose (4)

Answer 4

1. Make sure needle is below fluid level
2. Withdraw med slowly
3. Withdraw more med than you need, leave needle in vial, then push med back into the vial via plunger to exact dose
4. If still having issues, can tap or thump syringe gently to move air to top of syringe then purge air back into vial
