A

Atropine

A

It’s major actions are antimuscarinic:

  • Dry secretions (including salivation)
  • Slow the GI tract
  • Increase heart rate
  • Dilate the airways
  • Dilate the pupils

Glycopyrrolate

A
  • slower onset and longer duration of action than atropine
  • gradual effect, not like dramatic effect w/ atropine
  • Used on p under for SX
  • Preferred over atropine for rabbits
  • Can be used for excessive drooling (not common)

A
  • Urinary ‘antispasmodic’
  • Direct antimuscarinic and spasmolytic effects on smooth muscle, particularly bladder and large intestine
  • TX for overactive bladder
