Paralleling Flashcards
Object-Receptor Distance
distance between tooth and receptor; must be increased to keep parallelism; can result in image magnification/distortion
Target-Receptor Distance
distance between x-ray source and receptor; must be increased to ensure parallelism, compensates for magnification. Long cone PID must be used
Paralleling Technique: Rules
receptor placement, receptor position, vertical angulation, horizontal angulation, receptor exposure
Modifications
shallow palate or bony growths. ALWAYS examine oral cavity beforehand; use cotton rolls or increase vertical angulation to adjust
Advantages
accuracy, simplicity, duplication
Disadvantages
receptor placement difficult, discomfort
Errors
receptor placement, missed apices, dropped receptor corner, for-shortening, elongation
Size 1 Receptor
anterior, long portion in vertical direction
Size 2 Receptor
posterior, long portion in horizontal direction
Sequence
anterior - posterior; easier to tolerate and less chance of triggering gag reflex early on
