Parallel Circuits Flashcards
What is a parallel circuit?
A parallel circuit is way of connecting components on separate branches, so the current can take different routes around the circuit.
What is a series circuit
A series circuit has all the components in one loop connected by wires, so there is only one route for current to flow.
what is potential difference
how much energy the electrons carry around the circuit
how can you measure potential differnce
voltmetre
what is voltage
an electromotive force
what are the units for potential differenc meausred in
Volts
what is electricity
a fow of electrons around a circuit
what are the different wires called
live wire, neutral wire and earth wire
what is a magnetcic field
area around a magnet where there is magnetic force
what is a stem cell
is a cell that hanst differentiated yet
what metals are magnetic
iron, cobalt and nickel
how many neuarons make up a human brain
86 billion
what is a neuron
a nerve cell
what is the cerebal cortex
the outer layer of the cerebrum it is the centre of conscious thought
what is the cerebal corext didvided into to
into cerebal hemipsheres each with different functions
is selma shuts her left eye which side brain is she using
right brain
what is the spinal cord
consists of many nerves that carry information between the brian and the rest of the body
what does cns stad for
central nervous system
what makes up the CNS system
the brain and the spinal cord nerves and sense organs
what is a sense organ
receptor cells that sense surroundins
how many bones are in the body
206 bones
what does the retina contain
rod and cone cells
what is the cornea
a clear coverign around the pupil
what is a pupil
the hole through the iris
what is the iris
a coloured ring
what does the optic nerve do
transfers visula information from the retina to the brain via electrical impulses
what is an electrical impulse
a wave of electrical activity that passes from one end of a nerve cell to another
how many rods and cone cells are in a human retina
120 million rods, 6 million cones
what is the eye
a sense organ
what is an antagonisitc muscle
pair of muscles that act against each other
what is a agonisitc muscle
a muscle whose contractionmoves a part of the body directly
what happnes to the bone when tit contracts
it gets short and fat
what does voluntary muscles mean
they only work when you tell them to
what does involuntary muscles mean
our contracting muscles are automatic
