Papers Flashcards
What experiment did Kakehashi do?
1965
Germ free vs conventional rats
Pulp of maxillary right first molar exposed
Pulp tissue analysed from day 1-42
What did the Kakehashi results show?
Germ free rats: no abscess/ necrosis - dental bridging seen @ day 14 onwards regardless of size of exposure
Conventional: necrosis / abscess
What did Sundqvist 1985 show?
Looked at 19 teerh with periapical lesions and 18 of them harboured polymicrobial anaerobes
What did Sjrogen et Al 1991 show?
Looking for minimum effective time for dressing
Dressed teeth for 10 mins or 7 days
7 days effective at eliminating bacteria
What did Bystrom find?
Combined effect of NaOCl and edta was more effective than NaOCl alone
Canals left empty re grew Bactria
Compared 0.5 and 5% across 20 root canals with PARL and 15% edta used
What pH does EDTA have?
pH8
Which guidelines to review cases?
BSE
ESE
Recco annual reviews
Paula paper in 2011 was what type of paper ?
Observational prospective
Looked at root canals from graduate students for 2-4 years
What did Ng et Al show with regards to periapical status on healing?
Presence or absence of a lesion has OR of 1.96 and had greater impact on outcome than pulpal status
Greater impact because the species diversity is greater and likely bacteria penetrated deeper into dentinal tubules and areas not accessed by CMP
What did Ng et Al show with regards to pain/sinus?
Sinus has an impact likely because may give rise to extra radicular infection
For every 1mm of periapical lesion size what does the success rate change by
14%
Good quality coronal restoration increases odds by?
11 fold
What were the odds increase for patency ?
2 fold
What were the odds affected by being short ?
12% for every 1mm short
Effect of EDTA?
Primary no effect
Secondary 2 fold
