Paper Chromatography Flashcards
What is the purpose of paper chromatography?
To separate coloured mixtures/amino acids.sugars.
What are the components of paper chromatography experiment?
Strip paper, beaker, stick and solvent[water].
What happens when the chromatogram[results] are colorless?
We use a locating agent.
How to check for purity?
1} Check it’s melting/boiling point to make sure that it is fixed
2} Use chromatography, if it is pure then it will only show one spot.
Why must the baseline be drawn in pencil not pen?
Is the baseline is drawn in pen, the ink will smear with the liquid which effects the results[chromatogram].
Where should the solvent be until at the beaker?
The solvent should be until the tip part of the strip paper
How to calculate the rf value?
distance travelled by substance/distance moved by the solvent front
