Glass beads in the column provide a large surface area for condensation. The top is higher and the bottom is lower, in terms of temperature.

It is a significant industrial process in which it is used to separate of petroleum fractions.
What is the purpose of having an electric heater in this process?
To set the solution to boil at different tempratures.

When the temperature remains constant.
