Paper and board processes Flashcards
Die cutting process
Die cutters are used to cut out paper or card ‘nets’ or ‘developments’ which, when folded and assembled, will form a 3D shape such as a box. Die cutters
Bending process
The stamped-out net is placed onto a folding table. Some die cutting presses might be equipped with moving parts that help to bend or fold parts of a net automatically. For example, when making boxes, the die cut net is held firmly while the sides of the box are bent up along the crease lines. Some of the trickier finishing might be done by hand.
Laser cutting process
Laser cutters are perfect for prototype construction or small-scale production because they can be used to cut, engrave, perforate and carve. The use of lasers in packaging production is becoming quite common for prototypes and small batches because of their speed, accuracy and the high level of detail that is possible.
