PAPER AND BOARD FORMING PROCESSES Flashcards
Explain die cutting and creasing?
-Used to cut out paper or card nets, which when folded will form 3D shapes.
-Steel cutting dies and creasing rules are inserted into a plywood substrate board.
-The sheet is placed under the board and a press forces the board into the sheet, which cuts out the net.
-Where the net is to be folded the bed of the machine is raised and a blunt creasing rule is forced into the sheet.
-Rubber pads fixed to the press help to prevent the paper from sticking as the press moves up and down.
Explain bending?
A stamped out net is placed on a folding table, which is equipped with moving parts that help bend or fold the parts of the net. For some trickier folds may be done manually.
Explain laser cutting?
Lasers are used to cut and engrave card and cardboard. They are quite common for prototypes and small batches because of their speed, accuracy and high level of detail. They are also very flexible as they are not limited to one design and new ones can quickly be downloaded to the machine.
