National and international standards in product design Flashcards
Explain the British Standards institution?
Explain the International Standards Organisation?
Explain the Restriction of Hazardous Substances?
It restrict the use of specific hazardous materials found in electronical products. It prevents hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium from entering the production process in order to prevent damage to human health and the environment.
Explain the Battery Directive?
It requires batteries to to show a crossed out wheelie bin to show that the batteries should not be disposed of in normal waste. Clear instructions on safe disposal must be provided with the product.
Explain polymer codes for identification and recycling?
Explain packaging directives?
Explain the Waste from Electrical Equipment directive?
It covers the end of life of of electrical equipment. The products must carry the crossed through wheelie bin to ensure that the products are disposed of correctly.
Explain the EC energy label?
The use of a coloured scale from most to least efficient gives the consumers a comparison. It means that manufacturers must develop the efficiency of their products to make them more appealing.
Explain eco-labeling?
Certifications given to companies that meet environmental requirements. They are rewarded when the product meet high environmental standards throughout their life cycle, from raw material extraction, manufacture, distribution and disposal.
